Introduction: 2.4 million burn injuries are reported each year in the United States. Thousands of people in the United States die every year of burns and burn-related infections. The primary cause of fatal burn injuries is fire. However, burns also result from hot liquids and hot surfaces. In this program, you will learn about the most common burn injuries to older people and how to prevent these injuries.
 
Objectives: At the end of this course, you will be able to:
  • Recognize burn hazards;
  • Remove burn hazards from the environment;
  • Prevent burns by increasing the level of supervision when needed; and
  • Teach burn prevention practices to caregivers and older adults.

Course Authors: This course was adapted from Injury Prevention for the Elderly, a video/print training program consisting of ten modules written by Bonnie L. Walker, PhD.
