Introduction: We all strive for quality. But have you ever thought about how to define quality? What does quality mean: to you, to regulators, to residents, to resident family members, to staff?

The purpose of this program is to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and tools you need to develop or improve your quality assurance/quality improvement or (QA/QI) program.
 
Objectives: At the end of this course, you will be able to:
  • Define important terminology related to quality;
  • Identify expectations of quality from various perspectives including those of residents, staff, and surveyors;
  • Describe the history of QA/QI in the long-term care industry;
  • List organizations and websites that are helpful as QA/QI resources;
  • Identify the benefits of having a proactive program;
  • Describe the steps to developing a successful QA/QI program; and
  • Identify barriers that impede development and/or maintenance of a successful program
